Hi! I'm Laura. I'm glad you are here.
It has been said that women are the shock absorbers of society. When things get difficult it often falls to us to find a solution, pick up the pieces, and do more... give more.
But what if you simply can't do more? What if you have given so much already that there seems to be little of you left?
If you find yourself stretched too thin, tense with worry and what ifs, or shut down with despair, it's time to re-group. It's time to pause and take care of you.
If you need help with your parenting, a space to process your jumble of thoughts and emotions, or a fresh perspective to navigate a life transition, I can help.
I offer convenient tele-health sessions that provide you with the time and space you need to heal and to grow.
I offer solution-focused, skills-based parenting help for parents of kids of all ages who feel overwhelmed by their children's difficult behaviors and big emotions. This is short-term, highly effective work, tailored to the needs of you and your family. In short period of time, you can go from feeling frazzled and unsure to feeling confident and well-equipped to handle the parenting challenges that come your way.
I also work one-on-one with women who are interested in a "deeper dive" into the possible underlying factors that may be the fuel behind their difficult emotions, jumbled thoughts, and dysregulated nervous system. I offer a fresh perspective, evidence-based treatments, and a warm and encouraging space for you re-discover you again.
I also offer Christian counseling to women interested in integrating their faith into their treatment. It can be hard to reach out for help within the church. I take a thoughtful approach to the intersection of faith and models of counseling. Together we will explore your relationship with God, your understanding of His grace and His heart of compassion for you.
Ever since I took my first psychology class in 10th grade, I have been fascinated with the field. I love to study, learn and think about the ways in which faith and psychology intersect.
As an HSP (Highly Sensitive Person), I have always been deeply in-tune with the emotions and needs of those around me. It has been a challenge at times to go through life feeling everything around me to the fullest, but I am convinced that this is the very quality that allows me to effectively come alongside others with heart of empathy and understanding.
I have a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology, Sociology and Christian Ministries. I also have a Master's of Social Work in Clinical Practice from Southern Connecticut State University. I was licensed in the State of Connecticut in 1999.
Over the course of my career, I have worked with groups, families and individuals of all ages in community mental health and private practice settings. I have also enjoyed conducting parenting seminars and workshops and leading parenting small groups.
My heart often finds its expression in the written word and you can find some of my musings on the topic of parenting, faith and mental health over at Cornerstones for Parents. I am also the author of More Than a Conqueror: A Christian Kid's Guide to Winning the War on Worry, a faith-based workbook for 8-12 year olds struggling with anxiety.
If you have any questions about me or my experience or would just like to connect, please contact me. I would love to hear from you.
